The story develops in a small island imaginary off the coast of Maine, Little Tall (the one in which the work is set Dolores Claiborne). While preparations are underway to deal with a fearsome storm, the few inhabitants of the island, which until then had believed that it had secrets between them, are visited by Andre Linoge, a stranger who apparently knows all the details of the life of the islanders, even in the most hidden secrets. After killing a citizen, was imprisoned Linoge. Despite this, being, with his supernatural powers, pushing some of the islanders to commit suicide in a horrible, demonstrating that it can interfere in the events and the will of the people. Linoge also insistently expresses his will through his victims, repeating the phrase: "Give me what I want and I will go." The main character, Mike Anderson, Linoge supposed to be the demon Legion .......
